Subject: Local Admin Access-MAC Laptops
Affect Users: Executive Director, Principals, Vice-Principals
Background Info:
Why the change- Allowing users to be local administrators on their machines, gives you the access to add/ remove printers, applications, including iOS updates. And make changes to basic functions of the physical machine.
Currently, an administrator login and password would be required, (praadmin) to make the changes. After local admin access, you will use your own credentials to make changes.
Requirements:
- The affected devices will still be managed by Mosyle, this is a requirement to maintain the security and network settings of each device. Cortex (Firewall) and threat-protection software will be maintained.
- The Chrome Browser will still be managed by Mosyle.
- All Apple iOS software updates need to be checked and installed on a regular basis.
Software Downloads and Computer configuration changes:
- We would ask that you ask IT about any software that you want to install or use, before you install it. If not vetted by IT.
- Your machine becomes un-responsive or sluggish, after an authorized software install. Good luck.
- We would ask that you make time to work with IT to resolve the issues.
- Keep in mind loss of data can occur, if the hard drive is damage/ corrupted or mis-configured due to an incorrect software or firmware install/ update.
- Please be careful when making configuration changes to your machine, you can sometimes experience; un-intended consequences with any change.
Gotcha’s:
- Hard disk drives are not backed-up.
- It is strongly recommended that you save your data to the PRA Google Drive. If you have a hard-drive failure, you could lose your data.
- Please re-boot your mac at least once a week on Friday after work or Sunday night. (More news about this coming soon)
